The Lantac Dragon and the SureFire muzzle brakes are both very popular options for AR15 rifles. I am going to talk about the pros and cons of each one for those of you trying to decide which one to get.

The Lantac Dragon:

The key feature on this brake is it's Short Energy Pulse system. This shortens the length of the recoil, keeps repeating shot energy from overlapping, and moving the shooter off target. Watch the video and you will see how much less shot energy there is in comparison to the SureFire.

Pros:

- Comes with a crush washer and very easy to install.

- Has more chamber ports to disburse gases.

- Less brutal for those standing close to you.

- Smooth recoil feeling due to the SEP system.

- Lightweight compared to other bigger and more bulky muzzle brakes.

- No rearward concussion felt from the shooter.

Cons:

- Doesn't allow a suppressor to be mounted over the brake.

- Makes barrel cleaning a little tricky due to the chamber ports. (suggest using something like an OTIS memory flex cable)

- Increased muzzle flash over a stock A2 style flash hider.

The Surefire MB556K:

The MB556K has two key features. Their Impulse Diffusion design and being able to mount specific SureFire suppressors directly over the muzzle brake. The Impulse Diffusion is designed to keep the shooter on target for faster follow up shots, reduce muzzle rise, and reduce recoil.

Pros:

- Can mount a suppressor directly over the muzzle brake

- Easy to clean due to the bigger ports

- Lightweight compared to other bigger and more bulky muzzle brakes.

- Reduces muzzle rise

- Can adjust the position of the brake to fine tune recoil characteristics

Cons:

- More felt rearward concussion for the shooter than the Lantac.

- Recoil feeling isn't as smooth as the Lantac.

- Slightly more difficult to install because it comes with different sized shims instead of just a crush washer.

- More side concussion from shot energy due to less and bigger ports.

Conclusion:

Both muzzle brakes do a great job of reducing recoil, keeping on target, minimal muzzle rise, and disbursing shot energy. It's really a measurement of fractions between the two. Very high quality pieces from both companies!

I personally have the Lantac on my DDM4 V5. I chose the Lantac because fitting a suppressor wasn't a factor for me. Also the Lantac was a cheaper option over the SureFire.

The SureFire would be preferred if your operating conditions meant you were running a suppressor on and off often. Don't have to mess with taking the brake on and off, just slip the suppressor right over the brake and done.

You can't go wrong with either option, both of them do an excellent job!
